2020 was a very uncharted year. With the numerous unpleasant surprises it came with, nobody could have predicted the turn it took in the previous year. And now, we have made it into 2021; the start of a new decade and a new year; one full of so much promises and opportunities. Though we may not wish it, if care is not taken, this year could take the same turn as 2020. The good news is that you have the power to make this year better – if not best – for you. Regardless of any circumstances that may occur, you have major control over your life and your future.
So, how do you plan to glow up in 2021? In what ways do you plan to maximize the numerous opportunities that abound in 2021? What solid plans do you have to turn the vast promises of 2021 into ‘your’ reality? What new habits have you set yourself up to start living this year?
For your dreams to become a reality, you need ‘new habits’. You need to create new traditions, take a different approach to life, and dare to walk on uncharted paths. The same approach and same habits will only stifle your growth, limit your potentials and lead you back to where you presently are. But life is more exciting when you are progressing. The reality is that you are more likely to find fulfillment in growth than in stagnancy!
So, are you ready to live your dream life in 2021? Wouldn’t you like to live a more fulfilling life this year? Are you ready to glow up so much this year that you do not only shine but dazzle? Are you ready to reach for the stars and soar beyond your imagination? Here are habits you must cultivate to glow up;
1 CULTIVATE A GROWTH MINDSET – Many studies have shown that our potentials for growth are majorly dependent on one thing called “Our mindset”. Your mindset about yourself, life, growth, success, and failure can either stifle your growth or propel you to the limelight. So, I ask you, “What are your mindsets about yourself and life? Do you shy away from risks and new opportunities for fear of failing? Do you let the spirit of fear consume you so much that it rules your every action?”
2021 is your year to shake it off. There is no better time than now to do away with those paradigms that stifles your potential. In place of it, cultivate a growth mindset. Every morning/week this year, ask yourself these important questions, “What areas of my life have I been stagnant in and needs growth? How can I grow and live a more fulfilling life? In what ways can I serve others more and more?” The answers to these questions will guide you in making the necessary changes to your life.
2 LEARN THE ACT OF FOCUS – The ability to focus is an art most people have not mastered. You may have as much growth mindset as you want, but if you are not able to commit and focus on seeing your goals and dreams bloom into reality, then odds are that you will stop midway. In this new year, you need to make the ability to focus a habit. When you start up a task (say a course, training, or even typing an email) that will lead to your growth, ensure that you finish up the task regardless of any challenges. Do not stop midway!
3 LEARN TO PIVOT – One important habit you need to glow up in 2021 is the ability to pivot. You cannot keep using the same approach year after year and expect different outcomes. Is there a goal you have been trying so hard to achieve for so long but keeps falling short? Take a break and review the approach(es) you have been using. It is possible that you need to change your approach or tweak it a little in order to achieve that goal.
4 MAKE LEARNING A PART OF YOU – A new world of opportunity opens up to you when you learn new things. This year, make a note of learning new things each week. Read knowledge-dense books on specific interests. Go for training programs or courses on subject areas that you are interested in. Reach out to your employer or even teammates and ask for opportunities that will allow you to learn. Even if you are not assigned to a project that you are interested in, willingly volunteer and lend a helping hand. Any opportunity to learn is one that can make you glow up this year.
5 LEARN THE HABIT OF SETTING GOALS – It is true that everyone has something they want to do with their lives, but is it everyone that ends up achieving that? The answer is NO! The difference between both categories of people is in how they set goals. While successful people make setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely) goals a habit, the same cannot be said for their counterparts. This year, making setting goals a habit. I have found that setting and reviewing my goals every quarter of the year has helped immensely in my growth. You too can try the same!
