  • See 5 things every woman should do while waiting for her dream job

It’s a no-brainer that getting a university degree is not enough. Especially in this male-dominated world, women have to do the extra to stand out from the competition and secure that dream job.

Below are some things every woman can do while she waits for that job.

1. Start a blog.

Establishing an online presence is one of the easiest ways to stand out from other. Especially if the blog tallies with your dream profession, you can channel all your energies and passion into it, displaying just how proficient and knowledgeable you are in the field.
Blogging is a good way to market oneself. This is especially good when employers decide to check your online presence.
The blog, of course, has to be well crafted and designed to appeal to prospective employers.

The better your blog’s content, the better the impression you will make.

2. Internships

Internships give you practical knowledge in areas of interest. It is always easier to apply for internships in areas where one wishes to build a career than an actual full-time job. Especially if one doesn’t have any experience.

Internships also allow you to decide what aspect of the profession you would like to specialize in. For example, an intern at a law firm, a Media company etc.

3. Networking

Making meaningful connections is not even negotiable. No woman is an island. It is imperative to make friends and connections with people who matter in your industry. One great place to meet people is a seminar. Other places where you can meet people hangouts, meetups and groups (social media).

Being social can help you connect with your next employer and give you a chance to impress them. Another good platform is LinkedIn where you can promote your blog to the right people who will get to see your potential.

4. Gain more knowledge.

This is not just for those waiting for that dream job, but for everyone. Learning is a continuous process and while you send out your CVs and resumes, keep upgrading your skillset.
Professional courses in reputable institutions will improve what you already know about the career field. With certification in a field that’s related to your chosen profession, your chances of applying and getting your desired job are improved.

Moral of the story, do not be idle. Always be on the move, upgrading, connecting and improving yourself.
