Tips to get that promotion you so desire.

Climbing up the corporate ladder is a dream everyone nurtures. Sadly, not a lot of women get to make this climb as fast as they should. Let’s look at how you can get that promotion you have desired.

Here are five crucial tips that will help you break through the glass ceiling, get that promotion and earn what you deserve.

Document your achievements and performance:

No one will help you blow your trumpet. You have to do it yourself. It is important to properly document the value and progress you are making in the company so when it is time to ask for a raise, promotion or both, you will have an arsenal of valid reasons why you should be raised.

Sell your self, Talk about your achievements :

As a follow up to the above tip, once you document your achievements and performance you must learn to talk about them. You have to be comfortable talking about your achievements and performance to your bosses and senior colleagues. This might be very strange for most women who prefer their work to speak for itself. However in an office environment especially in cases where women lake sponsors and mentors that might know about their achievements and give them the right visibility they have to do it for themselves. Get comfortable selling your self, not in an arrogant or cocky manner but in a confident and stating the obvious facts way especially when you have the opportunity to share.

Learn The Best Way to Ask for More, And Proceed:

It has been revealed that many ladies do not negotiate their starting salaries as much as men do. Experts say how you negotiate your salary will affect future raises and how your bonuses will be calculated in the long run.

Also, keep in mind that if your employer can’t give you more money, you can ask for other benefits like more time off, telecommuting, etc.

Delegate. Do not do everything alone.

Delegation allows you to release busy work so you can showcase your true talents that may warrant advancement and more money.

As much as women are great at multitasking, it is counterproductive to be responsible for every single thing that goes on.

If you’re too busy doing everything, then you really don’t have time to develop a strategy to increase sales and you can’t focus on the crucial things that will actually move your career forward, eg learning new skills or spearheading important projects at work.

Choose your career path carefully.
